Find Your Companion With Our Adoptions For Veterans Program

The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA is proud to offer free adoptions for veterans. Veterans can visit the shelter andchoose from a selection of adult dogs and cats to adopt for free.

Love

Veterans interested in participating are encouraged to visit the shelter and/or complete an adoption application online. As with all adoptions at the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, pets will be matched with adopters based on the application completed and adoption counseling. Veterans will need to present proof of military service along with a driver’s license. Proof of military service can be in the form of a military ID card, a veteran ID card, a DD form 214, or a driver’s license with a veteran indicator.

Extra Support with Preventative Care

While supplies last, all dogs adopted through the program will go home with a six-month supply of Tri-Heart Plus (prevents heartworm disease as well as treats and controls some parasites) and a Bravecto Chew, which is good for 12 weeks of protection against fleas and ticks.

The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA appreciates the generosity of Merck Animal Health for making preventative care available for the program.

Companion animals can provide veterans with a great deal of comfort. Additionally, pet ownership encourages veterans to connect with other people by actively caring for their animals, such as taking trips to the vet or dog park. By encouraging adoptions among veterans, the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA has a great opportunity to positively impact the veteran community.
