Who is eligible for this program? Certain pets are selected for this program; selections are made by one of the two staff veterinarians and are based on the pet’s history and medical issues. The goal of this program is to have pets that have been diagnosed with a medical condition that may require on-going care (which can oftentimes be a barrier to adoption) to get out of the shelter and into a home. Due to time and financial constraints, this program is limited to a select few patients. The CASPCA clinic is very busy caring for all the shelter animals, and does not want to compromise quality of care. Therefore, the Angel Adoption Program only includes the pets we feel will benefit most from the program and can receive the care they need in our clinic. There are no special limitations to the adopters beyond the guidelines used for all humans adopting from the CASPCA. Angel pets will be designated with a bright green sign.
What does the Angel Adoption Program include? Adoption fees are waived and on-going medical care is provided by the SPCA. The SPCA will provide preventative health care such as annual wellness vaccinations and parasite treatments. Flea, tick or heartworm preventative can be purchased at a discount. Annual wellness examinations may include senior blood profiles, depending on the age and needs of the patient. The SPCA can also help manage the pet’s chronic health conditions such as diabetes, Cushing’s disease, and hyperthyroidism. We will also provide select surgical services such as mass removals, enucleations, cystotomies, and dental care. All services are at the discretion of the SPCA’s Director of Veterinary Services.
Care provided for these pets is limited to services provided in the SPCA’s Clinic. The SPCA is not equipped to provide treatment for patients that require hospitalization, and the services offered will be on an out-patient basis only. Any patient that requires services beyond the capability of the SPCA will be referred to a specialty center, at the adopter’s cost.
If you have any questions about the program, please contact the clinic receptionists via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (434) 964-3310.
